The biblical account
Prepared narrative summary · not a Scripture quotation
After weeks of mourning, Daniel stands beside the great river, the Tigris, and sees a radiant figure. Strength leaves him until a messenger touches and reassures him. The explanation opens a horizon of conflict beyond ordinary sight, then traces struggles among kings whose alliances and ambitions repeatedly bring suffering. Near the vision’s close, oppression intensifies, but Michael’s arising accompanies a promise of deliverance. Those sleeping in the dust awaken, and the wise shine with enduring brightness. Daniel asks about the outcome and is told that some understanding remains sealed. The final instruction is personal: continue toward his appointed end, rest, and await his allotted portion. The journey closes not with mastery of every mystery, but with endurance and resurrection hope.
Historical context
The Tigris is identifiable, but Daniel’s exact riverside position is unknown. Many scholars relate much of Daniel 11 to Hellenistic conflicts culminating under Antiochus IV; interpretations of the ending vary. These visions do not authorize precise modern end-date predictions. The image is a reused contextual artistic reconstruction, not an event-specific illustration; it portrays neither the river nor heavenly beings or resurrection.

What would faithful endurance look like if complete understanding never arrived within your lifetime?
