The biblical account

Prepared narrative summary · not a Scripture quotation

Believers meet Paul along the road toward Rome, giving him courage. Acts describes permission to live separately with a soldier guarding him. Arrival in the imperial capital is not a victory procession: it is restricted life made open to visitors. Paul gathers local Jewish leaders and explains his situation. Later he speaks about God’s kingdom and Jesus; responses remain divided. Some are persuaded and others do not believe. Acts closes with two years in rented accommodation, receiving visitors and continuing to teach boldly. It does not narrate his trial’s outcome or death. The final image is an open doorway rather than a completed biography: a prisoner welcoming people, while the message continues to travel beyond the limits placed on him.

Historical context

Rome is securely identified, but Paul’s lodging cannot be located. Acts ends after two years under guard. Traditions about martyrdom belong to other evidence and should be labeled separately. Early-60s dates are approximate; proposed locations for individual prison letters remain debated. Artwork review: Imagined guarded lodging in Rome; actual house and portraits unknown.
