The biblical account
Prepared narrative summary · not a Scripture quotation
War among kings sweeps Lot into captivity. Abram gathers his trained household men, pursues the captors, and recovers people and goods. Afterward, Melchizedek, king of Salem and priest of God Most High, blesses him. Abram refuses the king of Sodom's offer of wealth so that the king cannot claim to have made him rich. In the following vision, Abram voices the question that prosperity has not answered: he still lacks an heir. God directs him toward the stars and promises descendants. Abram believes, and the text describes that trust as reckoned to him as righteousness. A covenant ceremony follows, accompanied by a sober forecast of oppression before his descendants' return.
Historical context
Identifications of several kings and campaign locations are uncertain; the account cannot be matched confidently to a securely dated war. Salem is commonly associated with Jerusalem, but the passage supplies limited detail. Artwork notice: this is a reused contextual reconstruction, NOT event-specific artwork. It shows neither the battle, Melchizedek, a night sky, nor the covenant ceremony.

How can trust make room for honest questions rather than requiring you to conceal them?
