The biblical account
Prepared narrative summary · not a Scripture quotation
God renews the covenant, changes Abram's name to Abraham and Sarai's to Sarah, and appoints circumcision as its sign. Sarah is named as the mother of the promised Isaac, while Ishmael also receives a promise of blessing. Abraham responds with astonishment and laughter. Later, near the oaks of Mamre, he welcomes three visitors with water, rest, and a meal. The promise of a son is repeated, and Sarah laughs within the tent as she considers her age and Abraham's. The account does not portray waiting as effortless. It places hospitality beside disbelief, and an ordinary household meal beside an extraordinary promise that exceeds the couple's expectations.
Historical context
Mamre is associated with the Hebron region, but the precise encounter site and ancient trees cannot be authenticated. The covenant sign belongs to the narrative's particular religious setting. Artwork notice: this is a reused contextual reconstruction, NOT event-specific artwork. Its camp is not Abraham's tent, and its bush is not Mamre's oaks.

How might hospitality keep your life open while a long-awaited hope remains unresolved?
